Last week I paid a visit to the Wok & Wine restaurant in Edinburgh. As the name suggests, Wok & Wine is a Chinese restaurant that also serves a good selection of wine. If you have coeliac disease you will know that eating out in Chinese restaurants can be a challenge due to the fact that soy sauce appears prominently in many dishes. Wok & Wine provide a separate gluten free menu that includes a good selection of dishes made with gluten free soy sauce and using potato and rice flour instead of wheat flour.

I thought it would be worth writing a quick gluten free review of Le Monde in Edinburgh. I’ve been to this restaurant three times now since being diagnosed with coeliac disease – twice for lunch and once for dinner. Le Monde is situated in George street and is a chic bar with a large restaurant area, both downstairs (Vienna) and upstairs (Paris). It also has a hotel with 18 rooms, although I can’t comment on the hotel, having never stayed there.
Since starting my gluten free diet I’ve visited A Room in the Town in Edinburgh for a meal three or four times and I am always really impressed at the selection of gluten free food that they have available on the menu. A Room in the Town is just a few minutes walk downhill from the centre of George street at 18 Howe Street and is a great place for a relaxed lunch or dinner.
A couple of weeks ago I had a delicious gluten free dinner at MP’s Bistro in Edinburgh. If you’ve not heard of this resturant before it is inside the Parliment hotel, on Carlton Hill. You can get there very easily if you are in the town centre by just walking up Waterloo place, past the Apex Hotel and Howie’s, then you’ll find a little lane on your left hand side.
Since being diagnosed with coeliac disease at the end of 2010 I’ve not been to many restaurants due to a fear of being “glutenized” and spending the next few days being ill. As I recover and begin to feel more and more normal I intend to change that and at the same time write as many gluten free restaurant reviews as possible.
